IPL San Francisco

Beautiful, youthful skin with virtually no discomfort or downtime

One of the most exciting advances in skincare is the introduction of Intense Pulsed Light, a broad-spectrum energy treatment that effortlessly reduces the unsightly effects of sun damage as well as a range of other blemishes and imperfections that mar the complexion. The procedure is safe, gentle and non-ablative, producing gorgeous results – painlessly.

IPL is excellent for treating...

  • Rosacea/facial redness
  • Brown spots
  • Sun damage
  • Broken capillaries
  • Spider veins

Please note that while those with darker skin may not be ideal candidates for IPL, the treatment is appropriate for a wide range of skin types. Common treatment areas include the face, neck, chest, hands, or arms. The doctor or our nurse specialist, Laura Carlos, can help you to determine if IPL is right for your needs during consultation.

How does the technology work?

Our office uses the Sciton brand Forever Young BBL (broad band light) technology to penetrate the skin’s multiple layers, delivering a powerful energy wavelength while simultaneously preserving and cooling the skin surface. This is the only device that has been shown to change the expression of genes associated with aging, longevity, and increased lifespan.  Forever Young BBL treats a wide variety of conditions including age spots, freckles, redness and small vessels.  With regular treatments, your skin will look clearer, smoother, and younger.

During
the procedure

Undergoing a BBL photo facial treatment typically takes about 30-45  minutes. If you suffer from skin sensitivities, the doctor will apply a numbing agent; however, in general few patients  experience any discomfort during treatment. A patient can undergo a BBL treatment  during his or her lunch break and be back  to work almost immediately after the procedure.

After
treatment

Some patients may experience minor redness or aching comparable to a sunburn. This is normal and will quickly abate, usually within hours. It’s important to protect your newly treated skin from the sun however, by wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater as well as sun-protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses.

How quickly will
I see results?

The IPL treatment begins working right away and clear signs of improvement in skin quality can be visible within 2-3 weeks. However a total of 3-6 sessions spaced out once a month  is encouraged to see dynamic, comprehensive results. Progress is gentle and gradual.

Getting started with IPL

Our skincare specialist and nurse injector, Laura Carlos RN, invites you to attend a confidential consultation in the privacy and comfort of Dr. Elyassnia’s San Francisco offices so that you can learn more about this innovative skincare treatment. This initial session is used to assess your skin’s damage and create a customized treatment plan specific to your trouble zones and skin type.

During the consultation, Laura will record your medical history, as well as your prior skincare treatments, answering all your questions and concerns in depth. She will spend time discussing all the options available to meet your goals and explaining the treatment so you can get a better sense of what to expect from the IPL procedure.

Combining treatments is sometimes advisable as a way to optimize results and reduce downtime. If there are also other non-surgical treatments that you have an interest in after meeting with Laura, such as Botox or Juvederm, do not hesitate to ask as she can often include these treatments in the same visit.
