Make a list of everything you currently take. We will be working with your medical doctors and reviewing your medical history when planning your facelift, but you can help us start the process.<\/p>\n<p>This information is critical to determining both whether you\u2019re a candidate and which procedure is appropriate for you.<\/p>\n<h2>Common Questions about Facelifts in San Francisco<\/h2>\n<p>You, of course, will want to know what to expect, so also take a few moments to write down your questions beforehand, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How long will the surgery take?<\/li>\n<li>Will it be in-patient or out-patient?<\/li>\n<li>What are the risks?<\/li>\n<li>Would it be possible to get a similar result with a non-surgical procedure?<\/li>\n<li>What is the typical recovery time?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Preparing for Facelift Surgery<\/h2>\n<h3>The Do\u2019s and Don\u2019ts<\/h3>\n<p>Once your surgery is scheduled, we will give you a detailed list of instructions about what you should and should not eat or drink, medications you can take, and actions you should avoid. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Smoking inhibits healing and should be stopped 2 &#8211; 4 weeks prior to surgery.<\/li>\n<li>Aspirin and other blood thinning medications should not be taken within a week of surgery, as it can cause problems with clotting and bleeding.<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re nearing time for a hair color treatment, get it done in advance. It will be several weeks after surgery before you can once again color your hair.<\/li>\n<li>On the day of surgery, do not use an antibacterial soap and arrive for your appointment with clean skin, free of cosmetics, moisturizers, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Arranging for Transportation<\/h2>\n<p>Whether your surgery is performed here in our comfortable, state-of-the-art facility, or in the hospital with an overnight stay, driving yourself home will not be an option. Apart from any grogginess or discomfort you may be experiencing, the bandages may restrict your vision and\/or motion, and you will want to avoid making any sudden motions. You\u2019ll also need to stop off at the pharmacy to get your prescription(s). So be sure to arrange for someone to pick you up when you are discharged from care. It is also important to have someone who can stay with you and help you for a couple of days or, minimally, look in on you regularly.<\/p>\n<h2>Preparing for a Comfortable Recovery<\/h2>\n<p>Since it\u2019s important to limit motion when you return home and you won\u2019t be going anywhere for at least a couple of days, you should have your recovery area set up <em>before<\/em> the surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Most things are common to everyone who has facelift surgery, and facts and aftercare instructions will be provided in writing. However, what\u2019s considered \u201ccomfortable\u201d or a \u201cnecessity\u201d varies with each person.<\/p>\n<h2>Sleeping and Sitting<\/h2>\n<p>To minimize swelling, we advise you to keep your head elevated as much as possible. A recliner is excellent, as it can be adjusted for your comfort, and many people choose to sleep in it. At a minimum, however, be sure to have plenty of pillows or a foam wedge to keep your head elevated wherever you\u2019ll be stationing yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Also consider your tolerance for heat and cold. If you can remotely adjust the temperature in your area, be sure to have the device handy; if not, make sure you have ample blankets available.<\/p>\n<h2>Post-surgical Care for Your Face<\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s a \u201cstarter\u201d list:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ice packs<\/li>\n<li>Gauze and tape or other bandages<\/li>\n<li>A towel or washcloth<\/li>\n<li>Any creams or ointments you should be applying to the incision(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>For Your Physical and Mental Health \u2013 Food and Entertainment<\/h2>\n<p>Be sure to have plenty of beverages and foods that don\u2019t need to be cooked. An elaborate, 5-course meal will just have to wait, unless, of course, you have it delivered.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a reader, have your books, magazines or e-reader within easy reach.
